The Head Start Programme
Latics Driver Training has launched an exciting new initiative to allow those under the age of 17 to begin to learn to drive.  The Head Start Programme enables 16-year-olds to experience driving in a safe, controlled environment, off public roads.

The programme helps develop basic car control and manoeuvring skills, and is especially designed to progressively improve basic skills and to help prepare for learning to drive on the roads at age 17.

This head start can dramatically reduce the number of lessons required to reach test standard once the individual reaches the legal driving age, which will save you time and money.  Furthermore, it's great fun!

What does the programme involve?
The programme consists of five individual one-hour training sessions, and has been designed to incorporate different elements of basic car control.  These are moving off and stopping, steering, changing gear and reversing.

Under the supervision of professional driving instructors, participants (up to 3 in each vehicle) all have turns at mastering the above skills and are assessed at the end of each session.  If they are successful, they can return at a later time or date to progress onto the next level.

When all four levels listed above have been completed, the participant may return to take part in a mini driving course incorporating all the above skills (Session Five).

On completion of the programme, the participant will receive a certificate signed by the manager of Oldham Athletic in recognition of their fantastic achievement.  They will also be entered into a yearly draw to win a course of 10 hours' driving tuition, redeemable as soon as they are 17 and in possession of a valid provisional licence.
