Ex-Latics loanee Leon Constantine has joined Northampton Town from Leeds United on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old scored twice in eight appearances for Athletic at the back end of last season as he helped his adopted club to secure an eighth-place finish.

The ex-Port Vale man found opportunities limited at Elland Road after joining at the beginning of last season after his campaign was disrupted by a series of injuries.

He broke his arm in a collision with Neal Trotman during Latics' New Year's Day win in Yorkshire against Athletic and didn't appear for Leeds again in 2007/08.

"He's got a physical presence and a proven scoring record at this level," said Cobblers boss Stuart Gray.

"There were a lot of clubs in for him but I've got a good relationship with his agent and we've done a deal."

Constantine will link up with ex-Latic Andy Holt, who recently signed a new deal to remain at the Sixfields Stadium.
